PVB interlayer weight
PVB weighs about 1.07 g/cm³: a 0.38 mm interlayer is 0.41 kg/m² and a 0.76 mm one 0.81 kg/m². Laminated 6.4 (3 + 3 + 0.38) weighs 15.41 kg/m², and 8.8 (4 + 4 + 0.76) 20.81 kg/m²: the interlayer is under 5 % of the weight.

How it is worked out
interlayer (kg/m²) = thickness (mm) × 1.07
laminated (kg/m²) = Σ glass ply (mm) × 2.5 + number of interlayers × interlayer
pane (kg) = laminated × width × height
PVB density is given as 1.07 g/cm³ in the product data of Saflex Clear (specific gravity at 23 °C, ASTM D792) and of Trosifol Clear and Ultra Clear; stiff structural grades are 1.08. Glass is 2500 kg/m³ (EN 572-1). For 8.8: 4 × 2.5 + 4 × 2.5 + 0.76 × 1.07 = 20.81 kg/m².
What this page does not do
- It does not cover SentryGlas or EVA. Ionoplast and EVA interlayers have their own densities: use the maker's data sheet.
- It does not size the laminate. For the thickness a balustrade or a roof needs, use the calculators below.
Questions people ask
- How much does a PVB interlayer weigh?
- About 1.07 g/cm³: 0.41 kg/m² at 0.38 mm and 0.81 kg/m² at 0.76 mm.
- How much does laminated glass weigh?
- The glass at 2.5 kg/m² per mm plus the interlayer: 6.4 is 15.41 kg/m², 8.8 is 20.81 kg/m², 10.8 is 25.81 kg/m².
- What is the density of PVB?
- 1.07 g/cm³ for standard PVB interlayer, 1.08 for stiff structural grades, from the makers' product data.
