Collection 04
Metal & profiles
For whoever cuts bars, tubes and profiles to length — metalwork, aluminium and PVC window frames, shopfitting, frames and railings. How many bars a cut list really needs once the saw has taken its share, and what the order weighs.
Same rules as everywhere here: the method on the page, no sign-up, nothing uploaded, all of it computed in your browser.
The tools
Linear cutting optimizer
A cut list against the bars you buy: the fewest bars, the saw kerf and end trim counted, offcuts on the rack used first, and the ones worth keeping marked. 54 pieces from 6 m bars in 10, the theoretical minimum.
Weight · liveMetal weight
Steel, aluminium, stainless, brass and copper: bars, tubes, angles, channels and sheet, per metre and for the whole order, with kg/m charts.
Sheet · newBend allowance and flat length
Sheet metal flat blanks: bend allowance, bend deduction and the bend lines from the flanges, thickness, inside radius and angle, with the K-factor from DIN 6935. A 50 × 100 × 50 U in 2 mm sheet is 192.33 mm flat.
What the cutting plan looks like

Why it sits next to the glass
Because the window maker who orders the glass also cuts the frame. The same people cut aluminium and PVC profiles from 6 m and 6.5 m bars every day, and lose whole bars to the saw and to offcuts too short to keep. The glass has its own two-dimensional optimiser; this is the one for the bars.
