Compare suppliers’ offers, line by line

Bring in each supplier’s offer — pasted, as a CSV or from the text of a PDF — check the rows and match the same item across offers, and the comparison adds up only what is comparable: the same item, in the same unit, priced by every supplier. A missing price shows as no price, never as zero. Out come the comparison, with where every figure came from, and the questions to ask each supplier. Kept in this browser: nothing is uploaded.

Your company on the documents

Shown on every document you make here, and on the specification sheet and the schedule report: one set of details for all of them. Saved in this browser.

What is compared, and what is not

Each supplier is compared on your quantity times its net unit price, after the discounts written in its offer, before tax. A line counts in the totals only when every supplier priced it, the match is certain (not doubtful, not a suggestion you have not checked) and the unit is the same. Everything else stays on the sheet, flagged, with the reason: a supplier that did not quote it, a price that is missing, a unit to confirm, a match you marked as doubtful. The cheapest is marked line by line among the offers that priced that line comparably.

No price is not a price of zero

A row without a price comes in empty and says so. It is never added as zero, because a zero would make that supplier look cheaper for the one thing it did not price. Units are not converted either: a profile priced per piece and the same profile priced per linear metre cannot be compared without the length of the piece, so the sheet asks the supplier instead of guessing.

Bringing the offers in

Paste the rows from a spreadsheet or an e-mail, open a CSV, or open the PDF the supplier sent. Columns are found by their headings, in English or Spanish, or by what they hold, and you can change them. What is read is only a candidate: you tick the rows that belong to the offer, and every row keeps where it came from (pasted row, CSV row, PDF page and line) and the text as it was read, apart from what you change by hand.

PDFs: text yes, scans no

A PDF made by a program carries its text, and that text is read here, in your browser, with Mozilla’s pdf.js: the file is not sent anywhere. A scanned or photographed offer is a picture of the pages, with no text in it. The page tells you when that is the case; there is no character recognition here, so those rows have to be typed or pasted from another copy of the offer.

Questions for each supplier

What is missing or doubtful becomes a question to that supplier: an item it did not quote, a price it left out, a unit to confirm, a quantity different from yours (often a minimum charge), an amount that does not match quantity times price, a row that is not in your list. Copy them into an e-mail, or print them.

What is free

Comparisons of two offers with up to 20 lines each, printed or saved as PDF, with the questions and the CSV. Pro lifts both limits and removes the small “Prepared with SyntaxFlow” line.
