Rebar size and weight chart

A rebar's number is its diameter in eighths of an inch: #4 is 4/8 = ½ inch and weighs 0.668 lb per foot (0.994 kg/m), so a 20 ft bar weighs 13.4 lb and a 40 ft bar 26.7 lb. From #9 up the sizes follow the area instead (#9 is 1 in² of steel). The chart gives every standard size with its soft metric name, the diameter, the area and the weight per foot, per metre and per bar.

Nominal values of ASTM A615 (the same sizes and weights in A706 and A996): the diameter, area and weight are those of a plain round bar of the same weight per foot, since the ribs make the real outline larger. kg/m = lb/ft × 1.48816; the metric size is the soft metric designation stamped on bars made in metric (#13 for #4). The permitted variation in weight is 6 % under nominal for a single bar. For metric bars sold by diameter (B500, TMT, 8 to 32 mm), see the steel round bar and rebar chart.

Questions people ask

How much does #4 rebar weigh per foot?
0.668 lb per foot, 0.994 kg per metre. A 20 ft bar weighs 13.4 lb and a 40 ft bar 26.7 lb. #4 is ½ inch (12.7 mm) in diameter, metric size #13.
What size is #5 rebar?
5/8 inch, 15.9 mm, with an area of 0.31 in². It weighs 1.043 lb per foot (1.552 kg/m); its metric name is #16.
How do you calculate rebar weight?
Multiply the weight per foot from the chart by the length: 120 ft of #5 is 120 × 1.043 = 125 lb. For a bar not in the chart, area (in²) × 3.4 gives lb/ft, because steel weighs 3.4 lb per foot for each square inch of section.
