Cabinet and bookcase designer with cut list

Type the outside sizes and the board, and get every part: its size, which edges are taped and which way the grain runs. The sheets come from the same engine as the panel cutting optimizer, the edge tape is counted the way the edge calculator counts it, and the cabinet turns in 3D as you type. Every construction rule is written under the result, and every one can be changed.

How each part is sized

Everything runs in your browser; your design is kept in this browser only.

How it is worked out

furniture.js builds the parts from the outside sizes with the rules listed under the result; panelcut.js, the panel cutting optimizer's engine, lays each board's parts on the fewest sheets (guillotine cuts, kerf and trim); edge tape = for each part, banded long edges × length + banded short edges × width, × quantity, plus the allowance per banded edge.

What this page does not do

How do you work out a cabinet cut list?

From the outside sizes and the board thickness: the sides stand full height, the top and bottom fit between them (the width less two boards), the back is nailed on or sits in grooves, and the shelves and doors take their sizes from the inside. This page writes each rule next to the result.

How many hinges does a cabinet door need?

A common rule of thumb by door height: up to 900 mm two, up to 1600 mm three, up to 2000 mm four, taller five. Heavy or wide doors may need more: the hinge maker's chart decides.

How wide is a drawer box for side-mounted runners?

The inside width of the cabinet less the runner's clearance on each side, which is on the runner's datasheet; for ball-bearing side runners it is commonly about 12.5 to 13 mm a side.
